4 million users is the latest number jailbroken devices and growing.  This is not much of a surprise considering how Apple treats the independent developers that make and submit apps to the AppStore.  As layed out in my previous post Apple is using  smear campaigns when it comes to competition, such as Cydia and Jailbreaking.  They have the capital, political influence and media access to make criminals out of college kids.

Anyways I will continue to produce themes for the iPhone as long as it is legal and possible.  Most of us including myself are not doing this to mess with apple, we are doing it because we like it, there is a need for it and Apple does not provide it.  My repo is small and does not generate much cash but I can say my work helped a lot of people enjoys their iPhone a little more.  There are a few themes for sale in the Themeatorium Store which I hope people will like and purchase.

In a new article from Wired Apple’’s stance is exposed when it comes to it’’s claims that Jailbreaking is bad.  From the looks of it they are trying to scare the law makers into making it illegal to modify your own device.  The lengths this company is going to maintain their mobile computing monopoly has no limits.  Earlier this year Apple called us Pirates, but now they are getting serious by calling us Drug Dealers and Terrorists.  In their blind quest for control they are not realizing that there is so much bullshit a customer will take before kicking the iPhone to the curb.  All it has to happen is for a comparable device to hit the market and their precious iPhone won”t have the same following.  iPhone users are getting fed up with this invasive control and the insults thrown at us.

A bad person will do bad things regardless is their iPhone is jailbroken ir not.  If you want to take out a cellphone tower all you need is and Axe as seen in recent news stories from the west coast.

I wasn”t even going to conside it before, but now I”m strongly inclined to give the other smart phones a try.   The moment jailbreaking my iPhone will become impossible I will buy another phone and it will not be Apple.

As you could have seen the headlines today, on every major business news channel, Apple gave the boot to GV Mobile App.  This app brings Google Voice service to the iPhone for free and I””m pretty sure it ruffled a few feathers.  But who”’’s feathers? Apple feathers or the feathers of that “nice” Google exec who sits on the board of directors of Apple?  Who is not happy with this app? Apple, Google or At&t?

Anywho it doesn””t matter now. The app is available via ModMyi repository.  If you””re downloading it, please make a small effort and donate to the developer ( Sean Kovacs).  A tremendous amount of work goes into developing apps, and pretty much anything you get on the iPhone.

Google Voice is NOT a VOIP service, you still need an actual phone plan.

GV Mobile allows users of Google Voice to:

• dial numbers via the iPhone address book or typing on the keypad
• Full SMS support (view historic, reply, send new)
• retrieve and delete recent call history
• playback and delete voicemails
• take calls from different phones other than your iPhone
• enable or disable the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to
• add or delete phones that Google Voice forwards call to.

Google Voice is currently in beta and invite only, but expect those floodgates to open soon enough when they remove the invite only restriction.
